As the UK’s fourth largest supermarket chain, Morrisons were receiving significant negative feedback regarding their existing serve over hot food program.

With almost 500 stores nationwide, they saw a great opportunity to redefine their food-to-go with Flexeserve’s unique products and expertise.

Having discussed their issues with our team of hot-holding experts at an industry event, they were keen to solve their pain points, which involved poor quality food, customer complaints and packaging that was no longer fit for purpose.

Technology

With improved efficiencies being key to their goals, Morrisons selected the 3 Tier Flexeserve Zone Rear Feed unit to be used in each of their stores.

The combination of this unit’s large capacity, multi-temperature zones to support perfect hot-holding for any food item, and the ability to stock from behind the display would increase hold times and maximize efficiencies.

Food

The specialists at Flexeserve worked alongside Morrisons’ team to undertake a rigorous testing process.

Together we were able to find the optimum microclimate for each product, ensuring exceptional longevity whilst also retaining freshness, rich textures and bold colors.

Culinary

Our experts also developed and consolidated an efficient cook program that could be replicated across every store.

The process was designed for simplicity and accuracy, meaning both new and existing team members could be trained quickly and adjust easily.

Packaging

To provide the ideal hot-holding environment for each product on Morrisons’ new menu, a range of packaging solutions was reviewed and tested.

Having previously had issues with the quality of their packaging, the team at Morrisons had high expectations and was delighted with the results the new options could unlock.

Implement

Always looking to go the extra mile, we replicated a Morrisons-branded hot food counter in our headquarters to aid their team in visualizing the new displays.

We then managed and supported with the entire implementation and rollout process across every store, with continued assistance and ongoing training.

Connect

The first cloud-based service for hot-holding, Connect by Flexeserve enables any business to fully automate its hot food program. From scheduling hot food operating hours and adjusting temperatures to analyzing data and more, it’s all possible at the touch of a button.

Following the implementation of our game-changing units, Morrisons rolled out this multi-award-winning service across all of their stores to achieve true, unmatched hot-holding.

Our ongoing support

Now that the full equipment rollout has been completed, updating almost 500 stores with the new hot-holding program and Flexeserve Zone units, the support of our team can maintain these high standards.

We continue to offer refresher training to in-store teams, especially those with higher staff turnover, as well as ongoing health checks of our hot-holding units as needed.

The full rollout of Connect is expected to conclude in 2026 and will bring a new level of control to the Morrisons hot food-to-go program.
